Ten benchmark home projectors ranked on professional review consensus and standing within each maker's lineup as of May 2026. The list covers native-4K home-cinema models, ultra-short-throw laser TVs, and smart long-throw units, listing imaging and light-source technology, output resolution, manufacturer-rated brightness, and price band.
The biggest trap in projector shopping is the word "4K." Only two models here — the JVC DLA-NZ800 and Sony BRAVIA Projector 8 — use native 4K panels (D-ILA and SXRD). The other eight either shift 3LCD pixels (Epson's 4K PRO-UHD) or rapidly dither a 0.47-inch DLP chip (XPR) to output a 4K image. The signal really is 4K; the physical pixel count is not.
Brightness figures are equally hard to compare. Epson's LS800 is rated at 4,000 lumens, the brightest here, but it is an ultra-short-throw unit designed to replace a TV in a lit living room. The top-ranked JVC musters only 2,700 lumens, and its advantage lies in native contrast in a dark room. Deciding whether your room can be darkened matters more than any spec on the box.
