A ranking of China's twenty busiest attractions by annual visitor numbers, restricted to ticketed or reservation-based scenic areas, museums and theme parks that produce verifiable admission counts, and excluding free-entry city districts. Each entry lists its city and its heritage or scenic-area designation.
Beijing nearly monopolises this list, placing six entries — the Palace Museum, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, the National Museum of China, Badaling Great Wall and Universal Beijing Resort. The striking part is the shape of the ranking: China's busiest attractions are not Disney or Universal but three Ming and Qing imperial complexes. Before daily reservation caps were imposed, the Palace Museum drew 19.33 million visitors in a single year, making it the most visited museum on Earth. Caps now act as a hard ceiling: for the Palace Museum, Summer Palace and Badaling Great Wall, the limit is set by policy rather than demand.
The list also has a deliberate gap — West Lake in Hangzhou, the Bund in Shanghai and Xi'an's Datang Everbright City, all routinely credited with hundreds of millions of visits, are excluded because they are free to enter and their footfall is estimated by area survey, not by admission.
