Top 10 Car Brands with the Best Resale Value
The car brands that lose the least value, ranked by CarEdge's five-year resale value — the share of a new vehicle's original price it still commands on the US used market after five years. CarEdge publishes mainstream and luxury brands as two separate tables; this ranking merges them on the same metric and keeps each brand's position in its original table for reference.
Interesting Facts & Summary
The gap between the best and worst brands is close to threefold. Toyota still holds 64.9% of its original price after five years; in the same dataset Maserati keeps just 24.7%, Dodge 38.2% and Tesla 39.2%. On a $50,000 car, picking the wrong badge costs more over five years than a new entry-level model.
Six of the top ten are Japanese: Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Mazda, Subaru and Acura. That is not a coincidence — in Kelley Blue Book's 2026 awards Toyota took Best Resale Value Brand for the ninth time in ten years, and Lexus took Best Luxury Brand, an independent valuation system reaching the same conclusion.
What really resists depreciation is trucks, not sedans. CarEdge's model table is led by the GMC Sierra 3500HD at 80.3%, with the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD and Toyota Tacoma tied at 78.4%; KBB's 2026 overall winner is also the Tacoma, at 63.0%. For context, KBB puts the industry average at just 44.7% of sticker price after 60 months.
The most counterintuitive line on the list: Mercedes-Benz makes the top ten at 53.8%, while Jeep — a brand built on off-road resale mythology — manages only 49.4%, dragged down by everything that is not a Wrangler.
