Using the 2024 survey data in Gallup's 2025 Global Safety Report, this list selects the top 20 from the complete table of 144 countries and territories by the share of residents who feel safe walking alone at night. Equal published percentages remain tied. Consecutive list numbers indicate display position; tied indicator ranks are calculated by AnyRank from the full table. This measures residents' perceived safety, not crime rates, visitor safety or the Global Peace Index.
Use the complete 2024 table of 144 countries and territories on printed pages 22–24 of Gallup's 2025 Global Safety Report. The indicator is the share of respondents answering yes to feeling safe walking alone at night in the city or area where they live. Sort descending by the published whole-number percentage and retain the official table's order within ties. AnyRank calculates the indicator rank as one plus the number of entries with a strictly higher published percentage in the full table; this is not a separate official ranking issued by Gallup. System rank and position are consecutive display positions and must be read alongside the calculated-rank column. Include every entry tied at the percentage of the twentieth position. In this edition the cutoff is 86%, held only by Uzbekistan, so the list has 20 entries. The report year is 2025 and the survey year is 2024. dataAsOf=2024-12-31 is an annual reference date, not an exact fieldwork date. Nationally representative probability samples cover residents aged 15 and older, with approximately 1,000 or more respondents per country or territory interviewed by telephone or face to face. The reported 95% confidence-level margins of sampling error for total national samples range from ±3.3 to ±5.4 percentage points and account for weighting. This measures perceived safety, not crime rates, the probability of encountering harm, visitor safety, the combined Law and Order Index or GPI. The Gallup research center retrieved on 2026-10-13 labels the 2025 edition as latest; this statement is limited to what that official entry point displayed at retrieval.
